A Composer's Lookshelf

1) Who are you and where are you?

Thomas Deneuville, born in France, living in Astoria (NY).

2) What do you do for work?

I have 5 jobs right now, but my main activity is completing my MA in (Music) Composition.

 3) What do you do for fun?

Counterpoint and photography.

 4) Tell me something about your bookshelves.

My bookshelf is a shelter and a source of inspiration and humility. Sleeping next to masterpieces and great theoretical writings brings me the peace and courage I need to overcome my limitations and find my own voice as a composer. Most of my books are second hand, from libraries all over the US. I enjoy reading the notes taken by other students that are probably teaching now.

5) Tell me something about ONE of the books on your shelf.

Vincent Persichetti's "Twentieth-century Harmony" is probably not the most advanced and bold book on my bookshelf, but because of the concise and almost friendly (at least to me) tone, I often go back to it and feel refreshed and willing to experiment more.
